Meet Steve Walsh, Lead Instructor
Steve has spent over 33 years not only perfecting his firefighting skills, but also his teaching skills. As a Hazardous Materials technician with the Toronto Fire Service, Provincial CBRNe, and the National HUSAR CTF3 Team, he delivered training to a vast and varied audience. Steve delivered training to firefighters, police, and EMS staff in preparation for PANAM Games, G20 & G8, the Pope’s Youth Day (which hosted 1,000,000 people for a single day event), and various other high-level events.
For almost 10 years, Steve continued to grow his skill sets in becoming a volunteer firefighter in his local community. Here, he performed ice water and still water rescues, all aspects of rural firefighting, and was their Alternate CEMC for a majority of his time there.
Since his retirement from Toronto Fire Services, Steve has continued honing his skills, teaching at Georgian College with their Pre-Service Fire Program. There he taught all disciplines of firefighting in person as well as several on-line courses. This opportunity allowed Steve to expand his teaching methodology to a whole new demographic of students, spanning ages from 18-45+ years old.
The latest chapter in Steve’s teaching career has brought him to Waswanay. With us, Steve continues to sharpen his skills, as well as expand his portfolio of course material. He instructs all aspects of firefighting, including Haz Mat, basic firefighting skills, pump ops, RIT & Firefighter Rescue, and Company Officer level training. He now instructs drone courses, ICS training, aircraft firefighting, and assists in maintaining our online record management and online teaching platform.
Steve has now added Master Fire Plans and community Emergency Preparedness Plans to his cadre of skills.
The future looks bright for Steve, who’s hunger for knowledge shows no sign of slowing down.
